City of Satellites is an Australian duo from two cities thousands of miles apart. Jarrod Manuel (vocals, guitars, synthesizers) is based in Adelaide, Australia, while Thomas Diakomichalis (drums, synthesizers and production) is based in New York City, USA.
City of Satellites’ hook-laden, cinematically-inspired music showcases an effortless and heavily seductive blend of acoustic, electronic and human sounds; shimmering guitars and vaporous synthesizer tapestries creep in like the darkness across a desolate metropolis; ice-laden drums snap and pulse, often breaking songs apart only to rebuild them like some kind of experimental toy robot. All the while, syrupy sweet, abstract vocal passages are whispered to the listener, intoxicating melodies behaving like bridges throughout a beautiful cosmic playground.
In reviews of their material, critics have likened City of Satellites’ sound to artists such as Cocteau Twins, Goldfrapp, M83, OMD, Jeff Buckley, The Eurythmics, Erasure, Depeche Mode, The XX, Bat For Lashes, Aphex Twin, Talk Talk, Breathless, Bark Psychosis, Black Cab, Japan, Phil Collins, The Paradise Motel, Durutti Column, My Bloody Valentine, Scritti Politti, Ecstasy of Saint Theresa, Labradford, Chapterhouse, Slowdive, and Mew.
The critically acclaimed “Machine Is My Animal”, “The Spook”, “Remixed”, and "The Momentary Mask" are currently available independently from Bandcamp as well as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon, Apple Music, and Spotify.
